Sub-cities — the catalyst subcities scattered across every Evony server — are the most information-dense tiles on the map. They mark active, invested players; they're prime rally targets; and their quality tells you what an owner is worth before you ever scout them. This guide covers finding and evaluating them with iScope Recon.
Why sub-cities matter
- Rally targets. A high-quality enemy sub-city is a prestige rally and a big resource hit.
- Intel. Sub-city level and quality correlate with owner development; a level 5 quality-5 subcity flags a whale.
- Alliance mapping. Knowing where every sub-city is — yours and theirs — is the base map of server politics.
Using the Sub-Cities tab
The tab is subscription-only (paid plans), and it's the deepest filter set in Recon:
- Quality filter — pick the quality tiers you care about (4–5 for whales).
- Type filter — by sub-city type/civilization where relevant to your goal.
- Search — by owner name, alliance name, or civilization. "Show me every sub-city owned by [alliance]" is one search.
- Distance — center on your keep or on an enemy keep to plan operation ranges.
Every result shows owner, alliance, level, quality, and exact coordinates.
Use cases that actually happen
- War prep: map every enemy alliance sub-city before a server war; plan rally ranges from friendly keeps.
- Whale tracking: filter quality 5 and watch who's growing — those are your server's power players.
- Diplomacy: your leadership asks "who in [enemy alliance] has quality 4+ subcities near our hive?" — one search answers it.
- Recruitment scouting: evaluating a potential merge alliance? Count their sub-city quality distribution.
Pairing with player search
Sub-cities show structure; the Players tab shows power, kills, and bubble status (see the player search guide). Together: a quality-5 sub-city owned by a bubbled, low-kill keep is a very different target than one owned by the server's top attacker. Cross-reference before you rally.
